Many people between the ages of adolescence and 25 years of age will likely experience some sort of acne. A doctor may say the cause of acne is due to a buildup of natural oils that instead of leaving the skin collect in areas of the skin. Stress may be a cause of acne. There have been a number of studies showing that increased stress in young adults around adolescence does impact on the body and there is basis to believe stress is linked to acne. Other causes of acne that have been discussed are puberty and diet. With the onset of puberty in young adolescent children sex hormones in the body cause the follicular glands to grow larger and make more sebum. The increase of Sebum is linked to the increased irritation of the skin and acne. Glucose and insulin levels in the body seem to have a link with the how bad acne can be in individuals. Diets high in glucose or fat that may then increase insulin levels have been found to irritate acne and make it worse.
Acne starts as a redness of the skin, usually on the face, as a sign of skin irritation. This may develop into white, black or red spots at one point or another. As the redness appears it’s a good idea to be aware of the irritation and take more care in keeping the area clean. Cleaning the skin a couple of times a day will have great effect in controlling the acne and possibly reducing how much the acne will spread in a particular area. People think the black heads is a collection of dirt but in fact it’s a reaction in the skin. The good news is that there are a number of treatments.
There a number of options I thought this forum was a good place to discuss many of the options. Benzoyl peroxide is a first-line treatment for mild and moderate acne due to its effectiveness and mild side-effects (primarily an irritant dermatitis). Benzoyl peroxide normally causes dryness of the skin, slight redness, and occasional peeling. Antibiotics are given under more severe conditions and decrease acne due to their antibacterial properties as well as their ability to reduce inflammation. Salicylic acid helps to lessen acne due to its bactericidal and keratolytic properties. Also salicylic acid can open skin pores and helps remove epithelia skin cells. Hyperpigmentation of the skin has been observed in individuals with darker skin who use salicylic acid. Homones can help female patients who suffer from acne. Acne can be improved with the use of any combined oral contraceptive.. Topical retinoids are medications that help inflammation and work by helping thefollicles to develop in a healthy manner . This class includes tretinoin, adapalene, and tazarotene. Like isotretinoin, they are related to vitamin A but they are given topically and they generally have much milder side effects. There is considerable skin irritation as a side effect of this medication. Isotretinoin is very effective for severe acne as well as moderate acne that do not improve with other treatments. Improvement is typically seen after one to two months of use. After a single course about 80% of people are improved with more than 50% seeing total improvement and removal of acne. About 20% of people require a second course. There have been recent advances in device-based acne treatments. High Intensity blue-light designed specifically to kill the bacteria responsible for acne. Another treatement that has been developed recently is Microdermabrasion with and without vitamin C ascorbic acid. Additionally, Photothermolysis laser treatments targeted to stimulate a photoactivated by product which kills Acne. We do a great job in monitoring each case and prescribing a treatment that will have best effect on that patient.
The inflammation of the skin brought on by the acne causes the skin to work hard to heal the effects of the condition this causes scaring in the affected areas. Here we provided solutions to correct the after effects of acne and acne scarring . The phycological effects of acne can be quite brutal. The acne scaring can be disfiguring and physiologically harmful. We inject either collagene, restylane and radiesse to fill the scars.this is an effective strewatment and can result in a very smooth complextion. Demabrasion is used for more severe cases. It is a process where, together with anesthetic we remove a layer of skin. This allows the skin to repair the area with a new layer of skin.
Microdermabrasion is a type of ski polishing. We use a micro-crystal vacuum process that can help to remove damaged skin cells. This is a process applied over a number of sessions that gradually provides an improved skin surface.
Chemical peels uses a chemical solution applied to the scarred area. The solution can be strengthened depending on the severity of the scarring. The process allows for a smooth skin area to develop.
Non abrasive laser treatment does not require anesthetic. After as few as 5 treatments the improvements can be spectacular.
